Gay adoption
At the moment, various Christian denominations, principally the Roman Catholic Church but also the Church of England in the form of Archbishops Williams and Sentamu, are saying that Catholic adoption agencies should be allowed to discriminate against homosexual couples.
Let us substitute the word ‘black’ for the word ‘homosexual’. The argument is the same, but it seems acceptable here to discriminate against homosexuals.
In essence, the Catholic Church is not only saying that a homosexual relationship is theologically worse than a heterosexual relationship, but that gays are so depraved that it is better for children to be kept in care than to live in a stable, financially secure, loving household where both adoptive parents happen to be of the same sex.
I was initially dubious about putting this, but on reflection I will; the Catholic Church, or senior and significant parts thereof, systematically covered up the repeated abuse of children in the care of members of the Catholic Church. While this was not as frequent as is made out by the media, and the vast majority of Catholics, laity and clergy, would condemn it, it weakens the authority of the Roman Catholic Church to comment on these matters.

Good points. This is just about access to a service and if you provide a service to the public access to that service has to be regardless of who comes up to you- its the taxi for hire thing.

but the point is not about gay men or women per se-it’s about the relatinship. The Cahtolic church lets homosexuals adopt what it does not do is provide recognition to the relationship which the governmetn wants to force the mto do. Why should private bodies wiht sincere objections to homosexual sex-which has been opposed by Christendom for two millenium as I’m sure you know be forced to recongise such relationships?

Grachi a service to the public isn’t it rather a service for the children. why should private bodies be forced not to act in what they see as the best interests of children?
Black Cabs are a licenised governmetn contolled service -there’s no reason why private cabs should not have every right not to pick up peopel if they choose. INdeed even black cabs often won’t pick up people because they’re drunk-very very equivilant.

Unfortunately, the Catholic church does not let homosexual couples adopt. The reason private bodies shouldn’t be able to refuse gay couples for adoption is the same as why they shouldn’t be able to refuse black couples and so on.
Let me put it a different way: what would be the result if a homosexual adoption agency refused to place children in Catholic homes?
With regard to taxis, black caks in London are obliged under law to pick up anyone who hails them and take them anywhere within the city limits.
