The household management meme

The Winchester Whisperer has tagged me with a meme about household management - what tips can we pass on? WW has successfully used a stone cat as a mouse deterrent. I have three suggestions:

If you have just spilt red wine on the carpet, white wine is good for removing the stain. Red wine should not be used to remove white wine stains.

You can remove the smell of paint  by cutting an onion in half and placing the two halves, face up, in the redecorated room.  The onion absorbs the solvent and becomes poisonous, so don’t eat it.

Bananas give off the gas ethene, which will speed up the ripening of fruit left nearby.

And a couple of random ones of which more people should be aware:

Vermouth and tonic is a surprisingly good drink.

There are lots and lots of free books at Project Gutenberg.

I’m tagging Andrew Brown, Erik Ringmar and Tom Watson.

xD.

It’s surprisingly good. I was trying to order a gin and tonic in Spain but didn’t know how to say gin (it’s ginebra), so said the first thing I saw - Martini.

The onion one is a good one, although worryingly we may be entering an onion drought!

I’ll have to think about this…

I must try V&T. Perhaps you should patent it as a King Cole.

Forgot to add that I can now say, “I blogged with a man who blogged with a man who blogged with Gordon Brown!”

I rather like that, WW… ‘I’ll have a King Cole on the rocks, hold the olive’. I suppose if you use Noilly Prat, it could be an Old King Cole.

You can also say that you’ve blogged with someone who was voted for by Tony Blair (St James Ward, City of Westminster elections, 2006).

Andrew, I’d already noticed; the prices of onions and quite a few other staples are going up at the moment. French onion soup is going to become a luxury meal (well, more of one… it’s nice anyway)

    xD.

Conversely, king-sized Mars Bars make ideal fun-sized Mars Bars for giants.
