Porsche and the c-charge

Car manufacturer Porsche seems to have little respect for democracy. They have decided to pursue Ken Livingstone’s £25 charge on the most polluting cars in the courts. On the first of May, people will have a choice between Ken Livingstone, who supports the charge, and Boris Johnson who does not. Either way, the decision should be made at the ballot box and in the assembly room, not the courts.

I won’t say that I’m boycotting Porsche because I don’t have a Porsche, or any other car, or a driving license. However, their attempt to go around democratic processes is disappointing. I urge you to join me in signing this petition, from Stop Urban Four by Fours, that reads:

Climate change is the gravest threat facing human kind. A range of different measures is needed to avoid the worst consequences. Cutting pollution from cars is one vital strategy. With this in mind, the Mayor of London proposes a £25 per day charge on gas-guzzling cars* in London’s congestion zone. Porsche, the high performance car manufacturer, has threatened legal action to stop the CO2 Charge.

Policy on tackling pollution in London is a matter for Londoners, not car companies. We support the CO2 Charge and demand Porsche drop their court action.

One of the objections raised to Roe vs Wade is that it is judicial activism; I hope that conservatives will apply the same logic here.

xD.
