Is there such a thing as autoplagiarism, Nadine?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Nadine Dorries, MP for a constituency that must feel positively disenfranchised, has left a parting post for the summer recess. There’s a bit of waffle, and then something caught my eye.
After all, there is many a slip betwixt cup and lip, or in the case of blogging, betwixt keyboard, journalist and the entire planet.
Every MP [...]

My brother, Phil, is the physio for Yeovil Town Football Club’s Centre of Excellence. The first team physio is moving on from the club tomorrow, so Phil is going to be carrying th magic sponge for the first team game against Weymouth this Saturday. The story is here on the YTFC website.

Rumours of rebellion

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

According to Dave Osler, it’s a Miliband-Johnson ticket.
According to The Times, via Leon at Pickled Politics, it’s a Miliband-Harman ticket.
According to the Evening Boris, it’s Jack Straw and there are ten junior ministers ready to resign.
I’m going to use someone else’s description of rumour as it seems rather fitting.

George Carey and kinky sex

Monday, July 28th, 2008

The Rt. Revd. and Rt. Hon. The Lord Carey of Clifton, formerly the Archbishop of Canterbury, is opposed to kinky sex. That doesn’t just mean he doesn’t want to partake of kinky sex; he doesn’t want anyone else to partake either.
Writing in the News of the World1, George Carey comments on the fall-out of Max [...]

We are ZCTU

Monday, July 28th, 2008

A little while ago, I wrote a post here and on the Wardman Wire called ‘Help Zimbabwe from your chair’.
Lovemore Matombo and Wellington Chibebe, respectively the President and General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trades Unions (ZCTU), were being charged with ’spreading falsehoods prejudicial to the state’. Those falsehoods are, in fact, criticisms they [...]

The Glasgow East by-election

Friday, July 25th, 2008

OK, let’s be honest. It’s not good.
Via Liberal Conspiracy, I see that Lindylooz is using a flood metaphor for the turn against Labour. The only thing we don’t know is how high the tide is; it may start to recede and a few more Labour MPs may keep their heads above water. The question is [...]

I’m Dave Walker

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Click here to find out why; in short, it’s another case of the costs of fighting a libel claim being used as a form of censorship.
These people are also Dave Walker:

St Aidan to Abbey Manor - David Keen - Vicar (Yeovil)
The Wardman Wire - Matt Wardman (audio of BBC interview from 12/2007)
Gentle Wisdom - [...]

Show us a better way

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Via Tom Watson, I’ve found out about the Show Us a Better Way project. The idea is very simple; I quote from their website:
The UK Government wants to hear your ideas for new products that could improve the way public information is communicated
I have three entries.
Entry the first: Free our bills! The wonderful MySociety.org people [...]

New blog design

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I’ve changed the design of the blog. The changes aren’t particularly drastic from a coding point of view1 but make the blog look rather different as the white background is now grey and the grey boxes are now white. I like it, but there are some bits that need ironing out; I don’t think the [...]

Following up from Iain Dale’s 2007 Guide to Political Blogging in the UK, Total Politics are doing the 2008 version. You can email in your ten nominations to toptenblogs@totalpolitics.com; rules and more information are here.
Sunny Hundall and Bob Piper, two people I have a lot of time for and who I have put in my [...]
