New blog design

I’ve changed the design of the blog. The changes aren’t particularly drastic from a coding point of view1 but make the blog look rather different as the white background is now grey and the grey boxes are now white. I like it, but there are some bits that need ironing out; I don’t think the white dots in the sidebar work as well as the grey ones did and I might but the banner at the top in a white box as well.

If anyone has any comments, good or bad, or notices any glitches, I’d very much appreciate their telling me about it in the comments to this post.

xD.

1 - I changed some pictures and swapped B8B8B8 and FFFFFF round in the CSS file. CSS is a really good idea.

Why did you change it? I think I preferred it before… but I’m not sure.
I think the title bit with the picture of you would look better in a white box too. Maybe. It just doesn’t seem to stand out enough, like it’s just drawn on the background.
I also think you should make the pictures of hats line up better with the column of links beneath it.

Also, the white hats fade into the background too because the white bits are transparent - or however that works.

I like it - but normally read the blog on my feed feeder so dn’t reewmember what it looked like before.

I think this is a pretty neat way of using grey and white (neat as in tidy not neat as “gee that’s neat”, shudder)

White box for the banner too would be good as the distinction between black and grey isn’t quite enough I think.

    Alice,

Mostly, I changed it because I was a bit bored!

I agree with you about the banner at the top; I’ll work out what to do with it. The light-coloured hats don’t work very well. Either way, I think that it’s easier to read as black on white than the previous white on grey.

Tbh, the biggest problem with the blog’s layout is that it doesn’t display properly on Internet Explorer. I feel fairly confident, given that FireFox and Opera display the blog correctly and that the W3C checker says my code is OK, that the problem is with MicroSoft.

    JimJay,

Glad you like it. The previous design was almost identitcal except that the grey bits were white and vice versa.

    xD.
