A song for the inauguration

Eight years ago, almost to the day, I was in Washington, DC, and attended the inauguration of George Walker Bush as the forty-third President of the United States of America.

It is premature to make judgments on how good Bush’s presidency has been; we are too close in time. It’s probably fair to say that history will not be kind.

It probably is fair to say that there is a sense of expectancy and hope about the Obama presidency. This song seems particularly apt.

Hat tip to the wonderful Charlie Gillet for this; he played it as the first track on yesterday’s Charlie Gillet’s World of Music on the World Service; you can listen to it again here. The other tracks are all related to the 44th President. The last one is by the Pointer Sisters – ‘Yes We Can’.

xD.

Don’t you mean “the future” rather than “history”?

No; by history, I mean the products of future historians that will, in the future, be how we look at GWB in a historical context.

    xD.
